International Students - Fees for Postgraduate Research Degrees


Below are the Fee Bands which have been set for our research programs from 2004 through to 2008 indicating the growth in tuition fees each year. These projected fees will allow you to calculate the total tuition fees for a program as long as 5 years. The fees shown are for a full time annual study load of 48 units of credit (UOC).

For students commencing study in Semester 2, your first semester fees will be calculated on the basis of the applicable rate at the time of your entry but will be calculated based on the UOC that you enrol in during Semester 2. Usually this is 12 UOC. In Semester one of the following year, your fees will then be calculated on the fee bands for the new academic year.

If you have an offer to study at UNSW and defer the start date into the new calendar year then the fees will be set at the current band rates for the year you commence your studies.

As a general rule research fees are charged on a semester basis irrespective of when studies are commenced. The standard full time year of study is 48 Units of Credit.

Commonwealth Supported Places


A number Higher Education Reforms commenced in 2005 affecting most Local students.

Local HECS students who commenced their program prior to 2005 may continue their study under the previous HECS rules although will be called Commonwealth Support Students. The Student Contribution Rate (SCR) for 2008 is approximately $121 per unit of credit if the deferred payment option is selected. Students wishing to pay their Student Contribution upfront (per session) may be eligible for a 20% discount.

Local students who commenced their program in 2005 or later are subject to Higher Education Reforms and may be eligible for Commonwealth Support. The Student Contribution Rate (SCR) for 2008 is approximately $152 per unit of credit if the deferred payment option is selected. Students wishing to pay their Student Contribution upfront (per session) may be eligible for a 20% discount.

Local students enrolled in full-fee paying programs may be eligible for Commonwealth Support called "Fee-Help."

Please note: In December 2005 the Commonwealth Government legislated to disallow compulsory student union and amenities fees (known at UNSW as Student Activity Fees) for students who commence their studies after 1 July 2006.

Payment of membership fees for the various student associations is voluntary for all students enrolling in Session 1 2007 and thereafter. Information on payment arrangements for members and those who wish to become members in 2008 will be available following the Council review of student associations and services.

Local Students - Fees for Postgraduate Research Degrees


There are no tuition fees for Local Students undertaking Postgraduate Research.
