The Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet is a truly innovative method -- even by international standards -- of making comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge and information accessible to people interested in the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Their mission is to contribute to improving the health of Australia's Indigenous people by making relevant, high quality knowledge and information easily accessible.

Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW)


The AIHW comprehensively reports Indigenous health data for example the Health and Welfare of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Australian Bureau of Statistics


As well as conducting the Australian Census and compiling Indigenous data resources, the ABS provides up to date links to related Indigenous information sites.

Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS)


AIATSIS is an independent Commonwealth Government statutory authority devoted to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies. Based in Canberra it's Australia's premier institution for information about the cultures and lifestyles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Co-operative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health

Established in 1997, the Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health (CRCAH) is one of more than 60 CRCs set up by the Commonwealth Government to strengthen links between industry, research bodies, educational institutions and government agencies.  The Office for the Co-operative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health is based in Darwin, Northern Territory. Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH)


OATSIH is a within the Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) and works to provide "greater focus on the health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in mainstream health programs, and to assume responsibility for the administration of funding to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled health and substance use services. The long term strategy of OATSIH is to improve the access of Aborignal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to comprehensive primary health care services." Resources available from this site include the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and annual Health Performance Framework reports.

Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR)


The mission statement of the Indigenous Health Research Program at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) is:
    • To promote improved health and wellbeing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through health/ medical research and education.
    • To develop culturally appropriate reseach projects in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
    • To cooperate with, and where possible assist, the work of other agencies to improve the health and well being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
    • To act as an advocate on issues related to the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC)


The Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of New South Wales (AH&MRC) is the peak body for Aboriginal health in NSW and is comprised of over 60 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations throughout the state.

Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association (AIDA)


The Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association (AIDA) Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association (AIDA) is a professional organisation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students and graduates from across the country. The organisation was formed primarily as a collegiate support network for graduates and undergraduates and to encourage more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into the medical field. There are currently an estimated 90 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students in Australia.

Australian Indigenous Dentists' Association (IDAA)


Founded in 2004, the Indigenous Dentists' Association's (IDAA's) principal objective is the promotion of good oral health for Indigenous Australians.

Australian Indigenous Health Promotion Knowledge Network (AIHPKN)


The Australian Indigenous Health Promotion Knowledge Network (AIHPKN) provided access to the latest informaiotn in Indigenous health including employment, skills and educational development opportunities; conferences and publications. Membership is free.

Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses (CATSIN)

Coalition for Indigenous Health Equality


The Coalition for Indigenous Healthy Equality is committed to achieving Indigenous health equality within 25 years and is taking forward the 2005 recommendations of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Comissioner in partnership with numerous Australian government to work towards closing the gap.

Close the Gap Campaign for Indigenous Health Equality


The Close the Gap Campaign for Indigenous Health Equality is an ambitious national campaign to improve the length and quality of the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. National Close the Gap Day takes place on 2 April each year.

'Filling the Gap' Indigenous Dental Program


Muru Marri's Director and staff contribute as Board Members to the Indigenous dental program, 'Filling the Gap', a program where volunteer dentists provide services to patients of Wuchopperen Health Service in Cairns, Far North Queensland. An evaluation of this project is currently in press. Find out how to get involved.

Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF)


The Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) runs Aboriginal programs in the Northern Territory and NSW. This website contains a number of useful resources and links.

Indigenous Allied Health Australia


Indigenous Allied Health Australia is a web-based resource for allied health professionals, students and the community, established in 2009.

National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO)


NACCHO is the national peak Aboriginal health body. It has a membership of around 100 Aboriginal community controlled health services throughout Australia, which operate in urban, rural and remote areas.  NACCHO represents the health interests of Aboriginal communities at the national level. It promotes holistic and culturally appropriate health to Aboriginal communities.

National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC)

The NH&MRC is Australia’s leading expert body promoting the development and maintenance of public and individual health standards.

NSW Bringing Them Home Counsellors Consultative Group


The NSW Bringing Them Home Counsellors Consultative Group strives to imporve the social, emotional, spiritual, cultural, psychological, physical wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities, who have been affected by the past policies of force removal of chldren, by providing access to a range of holistic and culturally appropriae services.

People's Health Movement

Health for All Now! The People's Health Movement is a grassroots people's movement. The PHM calls for a revitalisation of the principles of the Alma-Ata Declaratioon which promised Health for All by the year 2000 and complete revision of international and dometic policy that has shown to impact netatively on health status and systems.
