General Links

The (statistical) number of inhabitants per doctor is given per country in its respective section.

• The average number for the Middle East is about 1 400 inhabitants / doctor. (Min.: Israel: 345; Max.: Jemen: 5,531)

The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) is located in Cairo ( Egypt ), a list of EMRO member states can be found here.

• Arab Social Science Research - a database and virtual library providing access to social research

• Index Medicus for the Eastern Mediterranean Region - In order to give access to health literature published in or related to the Eastern Mediterranean Region, the Eastern Mediterranean Region Library Network (EMLIBNET) produces an international index to Eastern Mediterranean health literature and information sources using headings according to the Medical Subject Headings MeSH list of the U.S. National Library of Medicine. This index is called Index Medicus for the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region (IMEMR).

Coverage of all countries is a difficult task, and we need help. We have done our best to list relevant resources for each country, but we are aware that this is not enough to keep the Library updated.

Therefore, we would like to invite you to join us. If you feel you are the person to take care of a country, or countries or even regions, please let us know, and we will hand over the task of maintaining the respective section of the WWW Virtual Library: Public Health to you.
