PhD Research Scholarship 2012–2014: Contraception understandings and experiences of Australian women

A full-time scholarship is available for a suitably qualified applicant to undertake research study leading to a PhD in public health. The project is a large qualitative interview study of women’s understandings and experiences of contraceptive methods in relation to their sexual lives and relationships, funded under an ARC Linkage Project grant to UNSW and Family Planning New South Wales. It is suitable for someone who wishes to develop their skills in open-ended in-depth interviewing and discourse analysis of interview data and in the study of sexuality in a biopsychosocial (social constructionist) framework.

Applicants must be honours or master’s graduates in social sciences, women’s/gender studies or public health with qualitative research training and/or experience. They should have a particular interest in family planning, sexuality and social analysis of sexual practice. Background experience in population or clinical research would be an advantage.

The scholarship stipend is $22,860 p.a. for three years. There is no provision for fees for international students.
