1. How do I enrol once I have accepted my offer?

At UNSW, students enrol and re-enrol online using the web-based student system, myUNSW. The myUNSW Web Enrolment Guide includes step by step instructions. myUNSW is also a key source of information about UNSW services, policies and procedures. Important information for students enrolling in programs at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine is included at the top of this page.

Prior to the start of the academic semester, the Admissions Office sends out details to commencing students about how to access myUNSW to accept an offer, update personal details and access enrolment screens. The School also sends information to both new and re-enrolling students prior to the commencement of each academic semester. This includes details about course offerings, course notes and also key details about enrolment, deadlines and payment of fees.

2. Enrolment procedures for NEW students

3. Enrolment procedures for CONTINUING students

4. What if I want to take leave from my studies?

If you intend to take leave for one or two semesters, you must complete the 'Program Enrolment Variation form' before the census date for each semester i.e. Semester 1 (T1) - 31 March, Semester 2 (T2) - 31 August. The form can be downloaded from the myUNSW Student Forms page (click on the "Program Leave" link). The form should be returned to your Program Administrator for School approval. Your Program Administrator will check that you have been withdrawn from any courses during that semester as you cannot withdraw from all your enrolment online. The form will then be forwarded to Student Services for processing.

NOTE: If you do not enrol and do not officially request leave from your studies then your enrolment will lapse at the census date and you will not be able to enrol in the following semester.

5. How do I know what is on offer?

An information pack will be posted and emailed to you prior to the commencement of residential week. This pack contains a list of course offerings and a timetable for the semester. The timetable is also available online and will be updated as changes occur and when venues are confirmed so please ensure that you check the site regularly.

6. What do I do once I get to the myUNSW screen?

myUNSW is regularly updated and instructions and ' How to.." steps for all functions are provided on the myUNSW site. You can also view demonstrations of myUNSW functions.

7. When do I enrol?

The School sends enrolment information (including key enrolment dates) prior to the start of each semester. There are several important dates to keep in mind when enrolling and these are posted on the myUNSW Enrolment Dates page. The School calendar is posted on the School Key Dates page.

8. How do I change my enrolment?

Once you have enrolled you can add courses to your enrolment online until the end of Week 1 of each semester. You can drop courses from your enrolment until the semester census date. Variation of enrolment is governed by the same rules as discontinuation of enrolment and due dates must be observed (
See point 7 for important dates).

9. When can I discontinue a course?

The census date each semester is the last date to discontinue a course without academic penalty and without financial liability for fees/HECS-Help. The census dates are usually:

      • 31 March - courses offered in T1 or T1A of Semester 1
      • 31 August - courses offered in T2 or T2A of Semester 2
      • mid-December - courses offered in U1 or U1A of Summer Term
      • mid-January - courses offered in U1B of Summer Term

Please check the
myUNSW Key Dates page for updated details on deadlines regarding enrolment, discontinuation and census dates.

You may still discontinue courses after the census date and until the Withdrawal without Failure date without academic penalty. However you are still held liable for fees/ HECS-Help liability for the course. The Withdrawal without Failure date is usually the end of Week 6 for Semester 1 and Semester 2 teaching periods, and the census date for other teaching periods.

If your request for withdrawal from one or more courses is the result of exceptional circumstances you may be eligible to apply for reimbursement of charges for the course. In addition, if exceptional circumstances prevent you from completing a course, and the Withdrawal without Failure date has passed then you may choose to apply for late withdrawal from a course. In both cases you must demonstrate that you were prevented from completing a course by circumstances beyond your control, which extended over a significant period of time. Instructions and forms to submit a Special Request for Withdrawal without Failure are available on the myUNSW Student Forms page.

10. When do I get my fee statement and my student card?

  • It is each student's responsibility to verify their individual Statement of Student Debt online by logging in to my.UNSW and to ensure that payment is made by the relevant due date. UNSW due dates and Census Dates apply. Commonwealth supported students who have not finalised payments by relevant semester census dates and have not provided a tax file number risk having their enrolment cancelled.
  • UNSW does not notify students of their student liability via a printed fee statement (Statement of Student Debt / Notice of Liability).
  • Students must access their Statement of Student Debt by logging in to my.UNSW.
  • Your full fee statement for the current semester will be shown. It is important to check that your fee and payment details are correct. If there are any errors please contact Student Central or the Student Financials Team as soon as possible. Payments can be made using one of the following methods:
          • In person at any Australia Post office
          • Over the phone using BPay
          • On the Internet via ANZ E Gate
The myUNSW Fees Page provides key information about fees.
  • Once you have enrolled please visit the FM Assist Office Level 2 Matthews Building (entry via Matthews Pavillions) to pick up a new student card. Student cards must be renewed each calendar year. This card is used as proof of identification and to borrow books.

16. How do I enrol in a cross-institutional course at another university?

  • To enrol in a cross institutional course you will need to contact the relevant institution for information about their course offerings, cross-institional application procedures, deadlines, fees and also obtain approval from the relevant academic department.
  • You will also need to obtain approval from the Postgraduate Coordinator at SPHCM by providing a course description including the credit value of the course, an outline of the assessment required and details about the degree program of which the course is a part. Please forward this information to your program administrator at UNSW who will contact you regarding the outcome of your request.
  • On completion of your cross-institutional study, please provide a copy of your result notice to your program administrator so that the credit can be noted on your academic record at UNSW.
