- A process of change in first-line health services in Chad
"Training in the field of community participation, district planning and immunization programme management exists at national and regional level in Chad. Many strategies for improving specific activities have been tried and training is sometimes decentralized at district level. Changes introduced following such training involve many people. Nonetheless, all these inputs seem to have had little impact on health service organization and quality of care at the health centre level. We would like to discuss the problem of the poor quality of services in an urban health centre in Chad…". [Health Policy and Planning; 16(1): 122–123.]

- Contracting between faith-based and public health sector in Sub-Saharan Africa: An ongoing crisis? The case of Cameroon, Tanzania, Chad and Uganda
"Contracting between faith-based district hospitals and public health authorities in Africa faces a crisis. This is the main conclusion of a study conducted for the Medicus Mundi International Network by the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp (ITM), and including cases from Cameroon, Uganda, Tanzania and Chad. In spite of the wide variety of contexts and experiences, the different case studies show that contracting between the State and faith-based district health sector has run into great difficulties. To make matters worse, there is no general awareness of the crisis, certainly not among the public sector actors. Unless correcting measures are taken, this almost hidden crisis risks to jeopardize in the medium-term the important contribution which the faith-based facilities make to the provision of care in Africa. The Medicus Mundi International Network is herewith disseminating the results of the study in order to contribute to the development of awareness of the situation and the urgency of change, and this not only in the countries and cases included in the study, but also with international cooperation actors. By helping to disseminate results, we hope to contribute to the joint search for structural solutions." Available in French/Français and English.
- Enquête Démographique et de Santé Tchad 2004
"Eight years after the first DHS survey took place in Chad, a new survey reveals that overall, the status of maternal and child health has not really improved. For instance, the proportion of women who receive assistance during delivery from trained medical personnel has declined and the proportion of children who have received all recommended vaccines has stagnated, remaining the lowest in Africa, due in good part to a very high dropout rate between the first and third doses of the DPT and polio vaccines."

- Owner Valuation of Rabies Vaccination of Dogs, Chad
We estimated the association between amount charged and probability that dog owners in N'Djaména, Chad, would have their dogs vaccinated against rabies. Owners would pay ≈400–700 CFA francs (US $0.78–$1.36)/animal. To vaccinate >70% of dogs, and thus interrupt rabies transmission, health officials should substantially subsidize these vaccinations. - Public Health in Chad: Connecting Spending and Results
The capture and leakage of public funds in the social sectors deprive poor people of the education and health care they need. A recent study in Chad shows that when public funds reach health centers, they make a positive difference in people’s access to health care, a reason why it is important to ensure that they do. - Structural Violence, Health and the Chad/Cameroon Oil Pipeline
While the Chad/Cameroon oil pipeline is being officially touted as beneficial development for the people in Cameroon, the Bagyeli have seen a myriad of negative consequences and few if any positive effects. The Bagyeli are foragers living in the rainforest of Cameroon near the terminus of the pipeline. For the Bagyeli, the pipeline has meant a loss of their habitat and a decline in the foodstuffs they rely on. Through the in-migration of people seeking employment and the increased impoverishment of the Bagyeli, there has been an increased risk of HIV infection as well as an increase in other diseases. As more areas in Chad and Cameroon, as well as other regions of the world, are being opened for oil exploration, the impacts this has on indigenous peoples’ health must be understood and acted upon.
