Clerkships (Non-UNSW Students)
The University of New South Wales offers clerkships (electives) through clinical schools to non-UNSW medical students. Clerkships must be at least four (4) weeks and cannot exceed eight (8) weeks.
We are currently accepting applications for commencement from February 2013.
Clerkships are not provided at any time of our hospitals during the period from early-December to the end of January
Please note:
Prince of Wales Hospital has no places between 1 October and the following 31 January each year;
Places in Emergency at Prince of Wales are 6 weeks in duration and have a set programme.
Sydney Children's Hospital has limited availability for Paediatrics placements
St Vincents Hospital has no places in surgery during December and January each year
The arrangements above are not negotiable.
Important points to read before applying:
All successful applicants (apart from those studying at New South Wales universities) must obtain an Australian National Police Check from the Australian Federal Police*. This must be done before you travel to Sydney and you are required to supply a certified copy or original to the Faculty of Medicine at UNSW. If you supply a certified copy you are required to bring the original with you to give to your Hospital.
Students coming from outside of Australia must also provide a criminal record check/statement* from the appropriate authority within their own country at the time of application and are required to forward this statement to UNSW with the application form.
*These are the most important documents in your application , without these documents the placement cannot go ahead.
Please see the AFP weblink below for more information on obtaining an Australian Federal Police Check:

| - | Applications for Clerkships (Electives) must be made through the Clerkship Coordinator at the Office of The Dean, Faculty of Medicine directly, not to individual hospitals. |
| - | Applications for medical clerkships are subject to the availability of clinical resources and an offer can be withdrawn at any time. The University receives more applications than there are places available. |
| - | Students may apply for one (1) clerkship only. |
| Please note that international and interstate students are NOT ELIGIBLE for half fare concession travel on government public transport in Sydney. Purchase and use of concession tickets may result in a heavy fine. |
