Elective Term Checklist

Use the step-by-step checklist below as a guide to organising and completing your Elective Term.

The Elective Term application process is managed through eMed.

Step 1
Arrange Elective as soon as possible. Complete and submit your application through eMed.

You can save your application as a Draft if you are not ready to submit.

Once submitted you will receive a confirmation email with a PDF attachment. Print and post or email this to your prospective supervisor in the University/Clinical School of your choice. The prospective Supervisor needs to complete their section of the form and return it to you.

Letter of Good Standing - If you are unsure if this is required you can apply for this at any time by re-opening your application form, selecting 'yes' and completing the details.
o
Step 2
Once your prospective supervisor has approved and returned your form please send or give it to the Electives Coordinator in the Office of the Dean, UNSW Medicine.

Please note that we will also accept, from the prospective supervisor, an official letter or email attached to the application form, as confirmation of their agreement.

Your application must be accompanied by a risk assessment of your elective (The form is available to download from either within your application form or the link in the right column of this page).
o
Step 3
Approval Steps
  1. Your application is forwarded by the Electives Coordinator to the Clinical Associate Dean of your UNSW Hospital attachment.
  2. If your Clinical Associate Dean approves your application it will be forwarded to the Senior Associate Dean for final approval.
  3. If approved by the Senior Associate Dean you will receive a confirmation email.
  4. When approved you can confirm your acceptance of the offer with your prospective supervisor.

Notes:
1. If you receive several offers, remember to send refusals and acceptances as soon as possible to your prospective supervisor.
2. Also, if you decide not to proceed with an Elective Term Application make sure you withdraw your application in eMed and advise your prospective supervisor.
3. If unforseen events occur in your proposed elective country the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University has the final say as to whether travel can be undertaken.
o

o
