2 April 2012:

UMAT results only valid for one year
From 2012 UMAT scores can be used for admission to UNSW Medicine ONLY in the year following the test. For example, results from UMAT2012 can be used for entry in 2013 but NOT 2014. Do not register for UMAT2012 unless you are planning to apply to commence in 2013 AND you meet the eligibility criteria specified in the UMAT2012 Information Booklet. Please note that the change will not affect candidates who sat UMAT2011 under the previous policy, so UMAT2011 Scores will still be accepted for entry in 2013. The following shows when scores can be used:

20 January, 2012:

Frequently asked questions after Main Round offers from UAC (January 18):
    1. Will there be offers to UNSW Medicine in the Late Round?
We will be making a number of offers in the Late Round. However, we anticipate that most or all of them will be made to interstate applicants who are being interviewed on January 24. (We are interviewing 50 applicants on that day.) Obviously, we do not know how many will be made offers. If there are still places available after those interviews, we will work down the ranked list from the Main Round of offers, and make whatever additional offers we need to make to fill the quota of places that the Australian Government has allocated to UNSW Medicine. However, we anticipate no more offers will need to be made.

    2. I received the code "I" for UNSW Medicine in the Main Round offers - what does that mean?
It is the second part of the explanation for this code which refers to your situation, namely, that at this stage, you have not met the cutoff for offers. As you are aware, selection is based on the sum of your academic, UMAT and interview results, so the cutoff does not refer to any one component, but to the sum of the three. Please be assured that if you had an interview at UNSW, your application will still be considered when places are being offered in the Late Round.

    3. I was offered a bonded place in the Main Round. Is there any chance of it being upgraded to an unbonded place in the Late Round?
As explained in point 1, there will be a number of offers in the Late Round, but we anticipate that most or all of the offers will be to interstate applicants who will be interviewed on January 25. If there are any unbonded places left, we will work down the ranked list and email applicants to offer the change to an unbonded place.

    4. Is it too late to be considered for a bonded place?
Yes. The deadline for you to indicate that you would be prepared to accept a bonded place was in December.
