Abstract submission date close
10 December 2010
| In a growing global marketplace where skills shortages and competition abound, the unique crossovers between environmental, economic, technological and educational sustainability are the perfect starting point for a debate on the value of simulation as a training and decision support tool.
The theme for SimTecT 2011 Learning and Simulation – Partners for a Sustainable Future, will position educators technologists and environmentalists in collaboration with economists in a dialogue to demonstrate how simulation is indeed a critical contributor to business sustainability.
Keynote speakers and special presentations will argue the value of prediction and preparation, educational integrity, technological innovation, environmental efficiencies and most importantly, the type of role simulation must play as a component in enhanced workforce strategies, for producing the economic outcomes required of businesses today.
Our popular technical program of pre-conference courses, technical and applications papers, symposia, and site visits remains a key feature of the Conference. The courses earn currency unit credits towards the SIAA’s Professional Certification Program, and we encourage organizations’ to include the Conference program as part of their staff’s continuing professional education.
The SimTecT 2011 Conference and Exhibition builds on the success of the previous fourteen SimTecTs to provide an opportunity for the simulation community to discover the latest research and product advances, and to discuss applications with developers and users. |

| 4-7 July 2011 | HERDSA Conference
Higher Education on the Edge
Gold Coast Queensland
http://conference.herdsa.org.au/2011/
Papers and contributions due 25 February | Griffith University is proud to host the HERDSA 2011 conference Higher Education on the Edge at the Radisson Resort on the beautiful Queensland Gold Coast. Our deliberately ambiguous theme was chosen to reflect the edgy, uncertain and intellectually challenging times we face in higher education. Research domains for the conference include:
* Academic practice, work and identities
* Learning, teaching, assessment and curriculum
* Quality and standards in higher education
* Leadership, management, governance and policy in higher education
* Student pathways, experiences, expectations and outcomes
Conference Theme
Higher Education on the Edge captures the essence of ‘seismic’ shifts and ‘tectonic’ transformations occurring in the sector, both in Australia and internationally. Our deliberately ambiguous theme was chosen to reflect the edgy, uncertain and intellectually challenging times we face in higher education.
As well as providing a forum for the voices of academic staff, researchers and professional staff who find themselves at the front lines of a rapidly diversifying higher education workforce, the 2011 Conference aims to push some of the more traditional higher education boundaries by encouraging representation from colleagues in the vocational education and training sector, from schools and private providers. Also important will be the representation of colleagues from business, industry and the private sector. Senior institutional leaders and policy makers will play a pivotal role in our Conference as we consider both the policy and the practical implications of what it means to engage with higher education ‘on the edge’. We encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students to participate as we explore the many significant changes in the student experience and academia. |

http://science.org.au/events/conferences-and-workshops/biomedical-education-forum/2011.html | The Forum aims specifically to establish a sustained leadership and collaborative network to maximize integration and efficiency as well as addressing standards and quality issues that will be raised by TEQSA.
The new Chairman of TEQSA, Dr Carol Nicoll has urged us to actively engage in the processes around defining standards and benchmarks in our disciplines. This is an ideal time for us to work together to produce a future looking curriculum that capitalizes on the opportunities presented by new technologies and developments in biomedical research.
If you are actively involved in biomedical education it is critical that you take part in this important meeting. In addition to building a new collaborative network, this forum will provide a unified voice / platform for biomedical education to gain political influence to ensure that the learning and teaching of biomedical science is supported at the highest levels.
The Forum will be moderated by Dr Norman Swan of ABC Radio National Health Report and feature several provocative presentations from national and international speakers as well as some group discussion activities around identifying key challenges in biomedical education that the network can work towards addressing. We will be asking for participants to take leadership roles and form working parties to take issues forward. The Committee has recently secured significant ALTC funding to help develop a sustainable collaborative universities biomedical education network which will provide a support structure for the working parties.
It is planned to produce a formal report on the Forum for distribution to the Academy and other relevant audiences. All participants will be invited to submit a one page report on an appropriate learning and teaching challenge that they face in their institution and what solutions / strategies they may have implemented. These will be peer-reviewed and published as part of the report to provide a snapshot of the quality of biomedical science education in Australia.

The conference theme of Regional and global cooperation in educational research, invites conference delegates to harness the momentum of this joint conference. Conferring with such wide ranging delegates offers a unique opportunity for the exchange of ideas and for fostering communication and collaboration on an international scale. At a time of major change in the educational sectors worldwide, many of the issues of theory, policy and practice facing national education systems are shared across countries and regions. Working with national curricula, preparing teachers for the future, for professional learning and accreditation, and learning technology challenges are some of the key areas to excite impetus for shared research initiatives. |
