Special Admissions Schemes - Local Applicants

Special schemes which operate for admission to the Faculty of Medicine are:

  • ACCESS - A scheme for students who have experienced long-term educational disadvantage in high school - phone 9385 3228 for details or see the website. Some of the places offered under this scheme will be in the categories of Medical Rural Bonded Scholarships and Bonded Medical Places.
  • Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Applicants - An alternative entry scheme exists with special entry criteria - phone (02) 9385 3210 for details or see the website.
  • Rural Students' Entry Scheme (RSES) - A scheme for students with a significant rural background - phone (02) 9385 2167 for details or see the website. A proportion of the places offered under this scheme will be in the categories of Medical Rural Bonded Scholarships and Bonded Medical Places.
    Please note: to be eligible for the RSES, applicants must have lived in a rural area for at least five years consecutively or cumulatively since the commencement of primary school. A rural area is defined as RRMA 3-7 (Rural, Remote, Metropolitan Areas classification system).   • Medical students from another medical school – A quota of three places is set aside for applicants who have partly completed another medical degree program at an interstate or overseas medical school. For further details, including the admission process, see here.
  • Graduate Entry Stream – A scheme for up to 15 high-performing UNSW Bachelor of Medical Science students to gain entry to UNSW Medicine with advanced standing. See here for further information.

The Faculty of Medicine does not have any special admission scheme for the admission of mature age students.
