This course explores contemporary ideas about learning in the health professions and the requirements these imply for teaching strategies and assessment. The course considers the range of contexts in which health professionals learn and develop as practitioners including formal education at university, informal and supervised learning in the workplace and continuing education. The course applies ideas about learning, teaching and assessment to situations that are relevant specifically to health professionals and their formation and ongoing development. Students are encouraged to work on a learning and teaching project that is relevant to their own area of interest. They are also encouraged to consider productive teaching and assessment strategies for meeting the learning needs of health professionals in a range of settings.
